Recently Completed Nepicar Staircases

We have recently completed these two stairs in a new office building in Kent.

Back in 2016 we were approached by the client to provide two staircases for their new office. We set up a design meeting and on site survey where ideas were talked through and proposals created. Once the style of stair had been selected we actually took the design team to one of our previously installed helical G-fin to see the staircase in real life. This was a great opportunity for them to see the fitted staircase up close and get a feel for the design. After seeing the staircase they were sold and we produced some simple 3D visualizations to show how the staircase would look in their reception area.

After a few small changes and alterations the design stage was completed and the job progressed into fabrication drawings and procurement of materials. Once these where delivered all the timber treads and landings were cut and sanded into shape and metal profiles where rolled, welded and polished and then the stairs were erected in our workshops before being dismantled and transported to site where they were installed by our skilled staff.

The main reception staircase is a helical G-fin with an inner stainless steel stringer, solid walnut treads and toughened glass balustrading on the outer. The second stair, a Levitate, was designed to match the G-fin using the same materials and finishes. Both the designs had our own HeLux LED lighting installed in the floor edge balustrade.

Introducing HeLux by Spiral Staircase Systems for Straight Stairs, Helical Stairs and Spiral Stairs

Spiral Staircase Systems have recently been developing an integrated LED lighting system for helical, curved and straight handrails on staircases and balustrading.
The HeLux system of illuminated handrails is the result.

The system incorporates a low voltage LED light unit and a bespoke flexible extrusion which fits inside our specially rebated stainless steel handrail.
The HeLux system has now been successfully installed on two commercial projects with some very positive feedback from our clients and already have orders on another 2 projects.

As well as illuminating the underside of the handrail, the HeLux system also gives the handrail a pleasant warm feel.

2016 marks Spiral Staircase Systems 50th year of the design, manufacture and installation of bespoke staircases.

Over the years we have progressed and grown as a company. We started out in 1966 with the “DS” (domestic stair) and the first one we fitted is still used to this day!

Nowadays we use a wide range of materials and techniques to create bespoke feature staircases working in the domestic and the commercial market all over the world.

As it’s our 50th year we have gathered most of our previous brochures together in the picture below.

SS 773 - Pentowan House

Here is an eye-catching example of a spiral staircase which utilises the G-Fin glass tread support system. To comply with Building Regulations, the 1830mm diameter stair required a rest landing due to the high 20 rise floor to floor height. The clients also specified a glass safety gate to be added at the top of the stair. This stair was installed as the main access between levels in a spacious Cornish holiday home.

The Halley VI is located on the Brunt ice shelf and features eight connected modules, made up of labs and living spaces, with a central module that provides an open plan social area at the heart of the station. This larger, red module weighs nearly 200 tonnes and features a hydroponic salad garden, a climbing wall and is lined with aromatic cedar. Specially-designed shades and lamps with daylight bulbs are used to simulate the sunrise.

Working closely with Hugh Broughton Architects, SSS designed and manufactured a 2 metre diameter spiral staircase using our Delta range of brackets. The specification included toughened glass panels capped with a stainless steel handrail. Treads were constructed from Black American Walnut and a solid balustrade was provided for the upper level which was clad with brushed stainless steel. The staircase was crated and shipped to the Antarctic and installed by contractor Morrison Construction.

New 'Levitate' Staircase Design

Introducing the new 'Levitate' staircase, the latest creation designed for Spiral Staircase Systems by Paul Barton.

The objective of this design was to produce the most minimal staircase possible using only the essential spiral staircase elements - treads, pole, balustrade and handrail. The usual supporting brackets have been entirely removed to give the illusion of unsupported treads which defy gravity.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Radial-Stair-Glass-copy.jpg

The first 'Levitate' staircase was recently installed in a stylish new home in Surrey. Solid European Oak treads and handrails add warmth to the toughened glass balustrade panels and the polished stainless steel centre pole. Matching timber risers ensured compliance to British Standards although these can be supplied in glass if required. Most importantly, the client was extremely happy with the new staircase and impressed with its minimal look which brought the WOW! factor to their new home.
